2012-2013 Articling Students
Alexander Melfi
Alex is currently completing his articles at Gardiner Roberts. He recently completed the JD program at Osgoode Hall Law School, after receiving an Honours B.A. in Forensic Science and Criminology from the University of Windsor. While in law school, Alex was actively involved with the Innocence Project, a student clinical program at Osgoode. Alex has also worked with numerous community based organizations, including the CNIB and National Service Dogs, training a puppy that has become a certified service dog. Prior to joining the firm, Alex interned at a corporate finance law firm in Toronto. His interests include snowboarding, golf, tennis and cooking.

Michelle Mondorf
Michelle is currently completing her articles at Gardiner Roberts, having graduated from the J.D. Program at the University of Windsor. Prior to law school, Michelle obtained a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Political Science, with a minor in German, at Acadia University in Nova Scotia. While in school, Michelle was a member and chair of various Student Law Society Committees, including the merchandise sales and formal committee. She was also a volunteer for Pro Bono Students Canada, assisting a local non-profit financial assistance centre in Windsor. Prior to attending law school, Michelle worked as a legal administrative assistant for a firm in Toronto. Michelle’s interests include music, baseball, volleyball, general fitness, and cars.

Amit Patel
Amit is currently completing his articles at Gardiner Roberts. Amit obtained a B.A. in Economics with a minor in Management from McGill University and recently completed the J.D. program at the University of Toronto. While in law school, Amit volunteered as a co-chair to organize Orientation Week 2010 for the Faculty of Law, welcoming new students to the school, and as tutor for the Law in Action Within Schools program. He also volunteered through Pro Bono Students Canada as a contributing editor for the Technology and IP Blog for the Centre of Innovation Law and Policy, and as a student-volunteer for the Not-For-Profit Corporate Law Project. Prior to joining Gardiner Roberts, Amit worked as a consultant with a firm that focused on corporate strategy for technology and communications businesses.

Andrea Tannenbaum
Andrea is currently completing her articles at Gardiner Roberts, having graduated from the J.D. Program at the University of Toronto. Prior to law school, Andrea obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Humanistic Studies from McGill University in Montreal. At U of T, Andrea was a member of the Health Law Club, a contributor to the school newspaper Ultra Vires, and was a tutor with the LAWS program. Outside of school, Andrea likes to play guitar, attend concerts, discover new restaurants and remain active. Andrea has travelled throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia.

Aly Virani
Aly is currently completing his articles at Gardiner Roberts. He recently graduated from a four-year joint degree program with the University of Ottawa and Michigan State University in which he obtained both an LL.B. and an American J.D. Prior to law school, Aly obtained an Honours Bachelor of Social Science with a double major in Political Science and Criminology. As an undergraduate student, he spent a semester abroad at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands. As a law student, Aly was the Chief Electoral Officer of the Common Law Student Society Elections, a teaching assistant in the Dispute Resolution and Professional Responsibility Program and a participant at the regional finals of the ABA Client Counseling Competition. Since 2007, Aly has been an active member of the national literacy movement and currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Excellence in Literacy Foundation. He enjoys traveling, running and golfing.

2013-2014 Articling Students
Alexandra Aversa – University of Windsor
Alexandra is currently in her final year of the J.D Program at the University of Windsor and will be returning to Gardiner Roberts to complete her articles. Prior to law school, Alexandra obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Detroit Mercy, while being a member and two-year captain of the University of Detroit Mercy Division I Women's Golf Team. Alexandra is actively involved with Community Legal Aid, a student-operated legal clinic at Windsor. She is also a member of the Social Orientation Committee, welcoming new students to the school and planning events. Alexandra's interests include golf, traveling and running.

Kevin Cooke – University of Windsor
Kevin is currently completing his third year of legal studies at the University of Windsor, and will be returning to Gardiner Roberts as an articling student. Prior to law school, Kevin completed his undergraduate degree in Political Studies at Queen’s University, as well as his Master’s degree in Communications at the London School of Economics. Before returning to law school Kevin also worked in government, most notably as Press Secretary and Speech Writer to a Cabinet Minister. At Windsor Law, Kevin was a finalist for the Lerner’s Cup Moot Competition. He is also a member of the Zuber Moot executive committee. Kevin was a supervisor at Windsor Law’s legal clinic Community Legal Aid where he led a team of students in resolving legal issues for local community members. Kevin has also held positions on the Academic Orientation committee of Windsor Law as well as various other Student Law Society clubs and groups. Kevin enjoys watching and participating in various sports. He also enjoys travelling and politics.

Kaitlyn Ledingham – University of Western Ontario
Kaitlyn is currently completing her final year of law school at the University of Western Ontario, and will be returning to Gardiner Roberts as an articling student. Kaitlyn will be spending the first semester of her final year on exchange at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom. Prior to law school, Kaitlyn obtained an Honours Bachelor of Social Science with a major in Criminology and a minor in Psychology. As a law student, Kaitlyn was Project Coordinator of the Small Claims Court Project, a case worker with Community Legal Services, a research assistant for Pro Bono Students Canada and captain of a dodgeball team. Kaitlyn's interests include traveling, attending concerts and playing intramural sports.

Alwyn Phillips – Osgoode Hall Law School
Alwyn is currently completing his final year of the JD program at Osgoode Hall Law School, and will be returning to Gardiner Roberts to complete his articles. Prior to law school, Alwyn obtained an Honours B.A. in Political Science, Caribbean Studies and Sociology at the University of Toronto, where he also served as the Chair for the Caribbean Studies Student Union. At Osgoode, Alwyn serves as the Law Student Ambassador for the Ontario Bar Association, and the Vice President of the Black Law Students Association. He also volunteered for Pro Bono Students Canada, and completed Osgoode’s Poverty Law Intensive program at Parkdale Community Legal Services. Prior to attending law school, Alwyn toured Canada and the United States as a Juno nominated recording artist. In his spare time he enjoys playing the piano and tenor saxophone, and composing hip hop and R&B instrumentals.

Robert Quinn – McGill University
Robert is currently completing his final year at McGill University’s Faculty of Law, where upon graduation he will hold degrees in both common and civil law. Prior to joining Gardiner Roberts as a summer student, Robert worked with the Department of Justice and the Pivot Legal Society. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Simon Fraser University with a major in criminology and a minor in psychology. While at McGill, Robert co-founded and served as the first co-president of the McGill Law Human Rights Group’s Police and State Accountability Working Group and served as a judge for first and second year moots. His areas of interest are taxation, litigation and constitutional law. When not working, Robert spends his time training Muay Thai kickboxing.
